Hustai National Park – Kharkhorin
Introduction
Hustai National Park is the home to tahi (Przewalskii) horse, recently reintroduced to Mongolia from world captive-bred zoos by a Dutch Foundation.
Przewalskii horses are only wild horses to survive in Modern times. They were once common throughout Mongolia, but in time, they became extinct in the wild in the late 1960s and since 1992, have been successfully re-introduced to Hustai from zoos around the world.
DAY 1: Arrival in Ulaanbaatar
Upon arrival you will meet your guide at the airport and transfer to your hotel. City tour is optional depending on your arrival time. In the evening there is a trip briefing welcome dinner with your guide.
DAY 2: Ulaanbaatar – Hustai National Park
A.M. pick up from your hotel and drive to Hustai National Park the east for 2 hours from Ulaanbaatar. Lunch at Hutsai Ger camp. P.M drive along Tuul river with willows on the edge ended with magnificent open steppe, to the remarkable Neolithic graves of Ungut, of the 6th or 7th Century A.D. Thereafter we will make our back way to a valley where Przewalskii horses highly probability to appear with some of the free roaming herds. During the day they usually stay high in mountains and rather difficult to see, whereas very early and late in the day usually come down into the valleys for water and to graze.
Day 3: Hustai exploration
Today we will explore varied habitats of Hustai National Park. We will hike to partly forested Hustai Mountains while having reasonable chance to see red deer, marmot and raptors such as black vultures, eagles and falcons. We will reach a small camp, Moilt consists of several wooden houses is located at wild valley. Transfer back to Hustai camp by vehicle and overnight in gers.
Day 3: Hustai – Kharkhorum
AM. We will drive for around 2 hours to Kharkhorum which was the oldest capital city of Mongol Empire, started building by Chinggis Khaan in 13th century. We will visit an impressive Kharakhorum archeological museum exhibits dozens of artifacts dating from 13th and 14th centuries which were recovered from sites of the city. Proceed to visit Erdenezuu Monastery which is the earliest and most magnificent monastery complex in Mongolia, was built at the base of Kharkhorum city in late of 16th century. Overnight at camp.
Day 4: Kharkhorum – Ulaanbaatar
AM. On the way back driving to Ulaanbaatar, we will take a stop at Moltsog Sand dune is locally known as “Little Gobi”. We will set out on the sand dune and have enjoyable riding a camel. Picnic lunch en route. Check into your hotel in Ulaanbaatar.
In the late afternoon, you will meet your guide at the hotel lobby for leaving to “Tumen Eh” folk music concert and have a farewell dinner altogether.
