Hovsgol – Flight
Introduction
Lake Hovsgol is known in locally as Blue Pearl and Switzerland of Mongolia, is one of seventeen ancient lakes in the world and the most pristine, as well as being the most significant drinking water reserve of Mongolia, situated at 1645 meters above sea level. It is originally twin lake of Baikal and its waters are equally crystal blue. It is a part of the Baikal Rift system, resulting from pressures associated with tectonic plate activity, when the Indian and Asian continents met around 55 million years ago. The Lake area is bigger than National Park Yellowstone and strictly protected as a transition zone between Central Asian Steppe and the Siberian Taiga. There are lenok, trout and an endemic grayling in the lake. The lake surrounded by beautiful mountains, thick pine and larch forests and lush, green meadows where yaks and horses graze peacefully.
Day 1: Fly to Hovsgol lake – Uushigiin uvur
Arrival at the Moron airport. Drive side to 17km away from Murun one the way we will visit special deer stones ensembles of “Uushigiin Uvur”, the biggest tomb found in Mongolia, which dates back to the Bronze Age. Transfer to your ger camp on the shores of the lake.
Day 2: Hovsgol lake – hiking and horse riding
Your ger camp located just steps away from Lake Hovsgol, the camp offers a cutting-edge lake. Swing open your door of your ger to discover and enjoy the striking lake views. Alag tsar is a simple ger camp on the peninsula, shoreline is spectacular, with forested hills coming straight down into the blue lake. Today we will hike up to a forested hilly mountain just behind of your camp site. Just after 2 miles of hiking along the pale track, you will discover a stunning view of the lake from the mountain edge.
After lunch in the camp, you can go horse riding along the lake shore to another direction from the camp to experience an impressive feeling of riding on Mongolian open and vast steppe.
Day 3: Hovsgol lake – kayaking
Start the precious day with go for kayaking on the crystal-like fresh water lake and enjoy the magnificent view of the lake.
In the late afternoon, we will hike for a few kilometers until we reach the steppe, where several nomadic families live where we have a visit with these hardy people.
Day 4: Fly to UB
A.M. Drive back to the Murun airport and fly back to UB. Upon arrival at the UB airport you will be transferred to your hotel. Check in the hotel. In the late afternoon, you will meet your guide at the hotel lobby for leaving to “Tumen Eh” folk music concert and have a farewell dinner altogether.
