Danshig Naadam festival
Introduction
Danshig festival is held in the beginning of August every year since 2015, celebrating again in 93 years after banning practicing Buddhism by communist influence. Tenshyuk (Tibetan) literally ‘stable remaining’ is a long life practice which involves making offerings to a teacher and requesting him to remain long in this world for the benefit of beings. It was firstly held as an enthronement ceremony of His Holiness Zanabazar in the 17th century, the head of Buddhism of Mongolia and it gradually remained as ceremony for celebration that aims at stabilizing and even lengthening life that’s traditionally offered to the His Holiness.
Day 1 – HUSTAI NATIONAL PARK
AM, we will pick up you from your hotel and drive for about 2 hour to Hustai National Park. In the late afternoon we embark on a game drive to view Przewalskii Horses (Equusprzewalskii) which is a once extinct wild horse species, similar to zebra. They have been reintroduced here in the 1990s, starting in 1992. We can also go on a small hike up on the ridges to have breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
Day 2 – DANSHIG NAADAM at HUI DOLOON HUDAG
After breakfast we will drive for an hour to Hui Doloon Hudag for watching various religious rituals, wrestling, horse racing and archery on the open field out in the nature. Take your time wandering around for watching and taking photographs of the rituals and competitions. In the late afternoon, we drive back to Ulaanbaatar.
